Citizens Style was born out of a 15-year-long friendship between our owners, Diane Spencer and Lynsee Pannell. Diane opened The Strand in west Tupelo in 1993, where she successfully ran the Redken 5th Avenue salon for 27 years. In 2005, Lynsee joined The Strand and the two worked together for the next 9 years before a Lynsee took on a new opportunity elsewhere. Diane and Lynsee remained close friends while their careers took different paths. In 2019, they began talks of pursuing a combined venture in downtown Tupelo. During the uncertainty of the COVID pandemic and a nationwide shutdown in spring of 2020, an opportunity arose and Citizens Style was created.

Citizens Style provides high-end, luxury salon services in a laidback, friendly setting. There is always a cool song on the radio, laughter between chairs, and a smiling face to greet you. Citizens Style is a salon where everyone can come to cultivate their style visions. We offer various types of hand-tied extensions, custom hair colors, eyelash extensions, eyebrow threading, makeup applications, and spray tans.

Citizens Style is honored to be the official hair sponsor for Miss Mississippi USA and Miss Mississippi Teen USA.

Our building has a rich history that we are honored to play a part in preserving. The ceiling and terrazzo are original to the building, first built in 1922 as Citizens National Bank, by which the name Citizens Style was inspired. There are many fun historical tidbits about our space, our favorite being that it was the last bank Machine Gun Kelly robbed in 1932. Our main vault contains the actual safe MGK stole $38,000 from and is now used as a service room for eyebrow threading, eyelash extensions, waxing, and makeup applications.

The brand of Citizens Style is our heart and soul; you will see our logo throughout the space on our custom floor mats and client capes. This sentiment is further reflected in our stations, mirrors, and reception desk. They are custom built by local cabinet maker Kevin Pilcher from 100+ year old reclaimed wood from the teardown of the Tupelo Cotton Gin.

Citizens Style is proud to be a part of historic Downtown Tupelo and we can’t wait to show you what it means to #BeAGoodCitizen.
